DHEA Study May Help Sexual Function & Menopause Symptoms

In a study published in the Journal of the International Menopause Society, Climacteric, Italian researchers claim to have found strong evidence that low doses of DHEA, a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands, may be able to improve the sex lives of menopausal women and treat menopause symptoms.

Dr. Anna Fenton, co-editor of Climacteric, stresses however, that the study is a pilot study with a small sample, and will require further studies to confirm the initial promising results.  Whether the results suggest that DHEA will become a viable alternative to HRT still remains to be seen, but researchers and healthcare professionals believe the studies holds great promise.
